Our story

Built by players,
for players

It started with a simple idea: make it easier for people in Northampton to play padel. What began as a few friends organising casual matches quickly grew into a full-scale local league, connecting players of all levels across the county.

We believe padel should be accessible, social and competitive, whether you are picking up a racket for the first time or chasing that top spot on the leaderboard.

What we do

Organise structured leagues and social matches for all levels.

Run seasonal competitions and friendly tournaments.

Host community events and padel socials.

Build a network of local players across Northamptonshire.

"I started this league to connect people who love padel. What began small is becoming something special."
Joe Barron, League President

2026 season rules

Know the
rules

The official rules for the 2026 NPL x Padel Power League season. By entering the league, all players agree to abide by them. You can also download them as a PDF ↗︎.

1. League format+
  • All league matches are allocated 90 minutes of court time.
  • Matches are played as the best of 3 sets.
  • If the match is tied at one set all, the deciding set depends on the time remaining. With 25 minutes or more left in the court booking, a full third set is played. With less than 25 minutes left, a super tie-break (first to 10 points, win by 2) is played instead of the third set.
  • Matches must begin promptly so they finish within the allocated court time.
2. Season format+
  • Each team plays every other team in their division once during the season.
  • The season includes an additional three weeks beyond the scheduled fixtures, to give flexibility for holidays, illness and other unavoidable commitments.
  • Teams are encouraged to complete fixtures as early as possible.
  • All league fixtures must be completed before the published season deadline.
3. Star Point scoring+

The NPL x Padel Power League uses the Star Point scoring format.

  • Games follow the standard scoring system (15, 30, 40).
  • At deuce (40–40), play continues using the traditional advantage system.
  • A team must win two consecutive points (advantage, then game) to win the game.
  • If the advantage changes hands and the score returns to deuce, a Star Point is played.
  • The Star Point is one deciding point that immediately determines the winner of the game.
  • The receiving team chooses whether the serve is delivered to the deuce or advantage court.
4. Match start+
  • Players should arrive at least 10 minutes before their scheduled start time.
  • Matches begin promptly at the scheduled time.
  • A warm-up of up to 5 minutes is permitted before play begins.
5. Late arrivals+
  • Any player arriving more than 10 minutes late automatically forfeits the first set 6–0.
  • The remaining set or sets are then played within the remaining court booking.
  • Teams who fail to attend a fixture without notice may forfeit the match 6–0, 6–0.
6. Cancellations+
  • Teams unable to fulfil a fixture must give a minimum of 24 hours' notice.
  • Notice should be given to both the opposing team and the league organiser.
  • Failure to give at least 24 hours' notice results in the fixture being awarded as a 6–0, 6–0 victory to the opposing team.
  • Repeated late cancellations or no-shows may result in removal from the league.
7. Rearranged fixtures+
  • Teams are encouraged to rearrange fixtures where necessary.
  • Rearranged matches must be agreed by both teams.
  • All rearranged fixtures must be completed before the published league deadline.
  • If teams cannot agree on a suitable date, the league organiser's decision is final.
8. Fixture disputes+
  • If a fixture cannot be completed and there is a dispute about responsibility, the Playtomic chat between the teams is used as the official record of communication.
  • The conversation may be reviewed using ChatGPT as an impartial decision-support tool, to assess the communication and the efforts made by each team to arrange or fulfil the fixture.
  • Based on that assessment, one of two outcomes may be awarded: a 6–0, 6–0 victory to the team that has made reasonable efforts to play the fixture, or a draw where both teams have made genuine and equal efforts but have been unable to complete it.
  • The league organiser reviews the assessment and retains the final decision on all fixture disputes.
  • Teams are strongly encouraged to keep all fixture discussions inside the Playtomic chat, so there is a complete and transparent record.
9. Substitutions+
  • Teams may use a substitute player if one of their registered players is unavailable.
  • The substitute must have a Playtomic rating equal to or lower than the player they are replacing.
  • A substitute cannot be a player who competes in the same division, or any higher division, of the NPL x Padel Power League.
  • Teams should notify the league organiser before the match whenever a substitute is being used.
  • The organiser reserves the right to refuse any substitute considered to give an unfair competitive advantage.
10. Injuries+
  • If a player is unable to continue due to injury after a match has started, the remaining games and sets required to complete the match are awarded to the opposing team.
  • Any completed games and sets stand.
11. League standings+

League positions are determined in this order:

  1. Matches won
  2. Sets won
  3. Games won
  4. Head-to-head result
  5. If teams remain tied, the league organiser determines the final placing.
12. Match results+
  • The winning team is responsible for submitting the match result immediately after the fixture.
  • Any scoring disputes must be reported to the league organiser within 24 hours of the match finishing.
13. Player conduct+

All players are expected to:

  • Respect opponents, partners, spectators and staff.
  • Play in the spirit of fair competition.
  • Accept line calls honestly and resolve any disagreements respectfully.
  • Refrain from abusive language, threatening behaviour or unsporting conduct.

The league organiser reserves the right to issue warnings, deduct league points, award walkovers, or remove players or teams from the competition for serious or repeated misconduct.

14. League administration+
  • The league organiser reserves the right to amend fixtures where necessary to ensure the smooth running of the competition.
  • These rules may be updated during the season if required.
  • The league organiser's interpretation of these rules, and decision on all league matters, is final.
Fair play+

The NPL x Padel Power League is built on respect, sportsmanship and competitive enjoyment. We encourage every player to:

  • Compete fairly.
  • Respect opponents and officials.
  • Honour fixtures.
  • Communicate openly.
  • Help grow the local padel community.

Play hard. Play fair. Play together.
